Glass Block - Cosmic Series

Richard T. Spaulding creates art works in
various media with emphasis on site specific architectural glass works in public and
private spaces. He has worked in glass since 1975, and has executed numerous commissions
for both residential and public spaces, remaining true to his artistic goal of taking
stained glass from a craft to a fine art/architectural sensibility.
Mr. Spaulding studied with the noted German designer Ludwig Schaffrath
and the American glass painter Albinas Elskus, and has taught various technical and design
workshops in Seattle and in the Northeast. He has displayed work at various galleries in
New York, Seattle, and in Europe. He has lectured on his work and the American glass
movement in Sweden, sponsored by the Swedish Industrial Society; Brazil, sponsored by Casa
Conrado Sorgenicht; and in Venezuela, sponsored by the Center of Fine Arts in Maracaibo.
Articles and criticisms about, and interviews with, the artist have appeared in
specialized glass publications, German and Swedish glass and design journals, various
general interest and design magazines, Seattle, San Diego and Latin American newspapers,
and the New York Times.

Two beautiful stained glass windows which have been exhibited in Europe
are currently featured in the Gallery. "Oxala, the Father" and "Yemanja,
Mother Goddess of the Sea" are wonderful examples of Mr. Spaulding's thematic,
mystical work. They measure approximately 40" x 40" each. They are priced at
$9,700.00 each.

Samples of Public Works

"Integration and Disintegration of Structure"
Mid-Manhattan Library, New York, NY
The first major public commission of stained glass in Manhattan for 50
years, this project, completed in 1986, took over four years from the initial contact
between the artist and client to completion. Working with architects and structural
engineers, and supervising the creation of the red "opal" glass in Germany, Mr.
Spaulding's work produces a special warmth from the exterior, making a more welcoming
entryway. The work casts a warm radiant light inside the foyer.
